Supporting Croydon

April 27, 2020

These are, of course, difficult times.

We all know this.  We can't go out when we want, we can't shop where we want, we can't get what we want. For some of us, drops in income are real pressing issues. And we are all struggling at times. We have better days, and we have awful days.

Here, though, is the important bit. It's *not* like the apocalyptic movies. We have not descended into a Mad Maxian dystopia of selfish behaviour. Most of us, most of the time, are working together to help each other.

In that spirit, here are a couple of lists. The first is our favourite local independents who are continuing to offer services to their customers; the second is the amazing mutual aid groups that have sprung up round Croydon.

Mr Fox

Since the sad demise of Burgr 'n' Beer at Matthew's Yard, Mr Fox have stepped up to do, in our pretty expert* opinion, the best burgers in Croydon. You can now get them delivered to your home on Fridays and Saturdays, and their yummy roasts on a Sunday! You can also get Tacos and Cocktails, so party on!

*We eat a lot of burgers.

The Oval Tavern

Speaking of Sunday Roasts, the Oval Tavern now do lunchtime (12.30-3pm) and evening (6-8.30pm) takeaways, including their Sunday roasts - but you need to order those before 10am!

Mr Tinto Coffee

After those Sunday lunches, you probably need some caffeine to get you going again! Mr Tinto used to provide the coffee cart outside East Croydon, but is still providing to your house!

Beer from Cronx and Signal

Or, it's just possible you might want a beer to wash your food down with. You can get a range of ales from Cronx Brewery, or Lager from Signal.

We'd also like to give a shout out to all the guys at Surrey Street Market. We'd recommend arriving early, and bringing the right change as it gets harder to social distance there after mid-morning, but it's overflowing with fresh fruit and veg.

Covid 19 Mutual Aid Groups

Most of these have coordinated via Facebook, and are doing amazing work, mainly supporting those most vulnerable to the situation.

We're sure there's lots of other wonderful things available in Croydon - please do let us know in the comments and we'll add them to the list!
